The original tapestry, woven
in the early 16th Century, is on display in the Cluny Museum in Paris. It
is one of six original tapestries in the Lady with Unicorn Series. It is
the only one in the series not devoted to one of the five senses. The
tapestry depicts a beautifully clad lady before a tent, crowned with a
banner that translates "To My Only Desire." During the Middle
Ages it was believed that only an innocent girl could approach a unicorn.
The brave lion and legendary unicorn symbolize strength and purity. Desire
is Jacquard woven in Belgium. |
